Shopping centre Heksenwiel in Breda accommodates 51 tenants and has a shopping area of approximately 11.000 sq. m. In order to keep the shopping centre attractive for its (potential) tenants, shoppers and visitors, the centre demanded for a renovation.
Part of this revitalisation concerns the renewal of the wall and ceiling finishes in three gateways to the shopping area, whereby the traditional public lighting has also been replaced by LED lighting and integrated into the design. An existing retail unit has been converted into an extra gateway, in order to achieve better accessibility of the shopping area from the underlying public parking facility.
In addition, existing canopies on the facades in the shopping street have been replaced for new awnings and painting has been carried out at the shop fronts to realize an unambiguous façade. By merging three old shop units, a large space has been created that will be added to the existing retail space of a large supermarket.
Since the activities are carried out during the opening hours of the shopping center, informing tenants, residents and visitors is an important factor for the success of the project. Thanks to the cooperation between the stakeholders such as the Municipality of Breda, the housing corporation and the retailer’s association, the project has been successfully completed.
